Q. How many residents live at the WCA Home? A. There are private rooms for thirty-seven ladies to reside in the home. Q.How long does the admission process take? A. It is best to plan on a couple hours to complete the admission paperwork. The WCA Home requires a pre-screening of the prospective resident and a physical completed by the resident’s doctor prior to setting a move-in date. Q. My mother is a diabetic; would there be a special menu for her? A. Yes, the WCA Home provides three different diets. They are low sodium, low concentrated sweet and regular. All menus are approved by a registered dietician. Q. If my mom’s room doesn’t have a half bath in it, how far away is the bathroom and how many women share it? A. There are many bathrooms centrally located throughout the home. They are located near bedrooms, as well as, near the activity or recreation rooms or the dining rooms. Q. What types of social activities are available? A. Social activities are scheduled on a daily basis for daytime and evening. Movies, bingo, bridge, pinochle, cooking, puzzles, painting, drawing, singing, visiting guest-lectures, and visiting music therapy just a few to mention. Q. What are the costs associated with living at the WCA Home? A. All rooms are private. This Victorian WCA Home offers five different size rooms:
These rates are effective June 1, 2008. Rates are subject to change by the Board of Directors. All residents receive a 45 day notice of a change in rates. Q. The WCA Home is equipped with cable TV in each bedroom. If I subscribe to the cable service, what are the charges to have cable TV in my room? A. Currently, the charge is a monthly fee of $20.00. This charge is optional and can be added to your rent bill each month. Q. We want to go to Florida for a vacation; can my mom stay for a short period of time? A. Yes, the WCA Home has a respite program in place for short term residency. Q. My mom has a long term care policy. Will it cover her charges at the WCA Home? A. Most adult homes aren’t covered. However, each policy differs and you would be encouraged to check with your own company that issued your policy. Q. My mom can’t seem to keep her pills straight. Would there be available help for her? A. Yes, the WCA Home monitors all prescription medicines and distributes the medications as required. Q. How would she get her medicine delivered to her while living at the home? A. The WCA Home works with a local pharmacy called Patients First. They deliver daily and most insurances are accepted. If you want to stay with your current pharmacy, you have the right to do so. However, the WCA Home will not pick up medications. Your family must do this for you. Q. Would my mom have to change doctors? A. No, she will continue to go into the community and use her primary physician just as if she were still at home. Q. Can my mom have a car while living at the WCA Home? A. Yes, although the parking is very minimal. There is designated parking available for residents. Q. How do your residents stay busy during the day? A. The WCA Home has both a large recreation room and a large activity room. A variety of activities are offered, exercise, games, baking, movies & popcorn, sing-a-longs, art classes, crafts, planting, letter writing, religious services, morning devotional, music therapy (conducted by SUNY College at Fredonia interns), luncheons at a local restaurant, weekly library visits, attending concerts in the park in the summer and the free concerts at SUNY College at Fredonia during the winter months, and pamper day held on every Thursday (beautician comes to the WCA Home along with a community volunteer to help with fingernails while enjoying soft music in the background and a cup of tea or coffee) to name just a few. Q. Can the family visit regularly? A. Yes, the WCA Home recognizes that this is still a very important part in our residents’ lives and do all they can to encourage visits. Q. Is there someone at the WCA Home that could help my mom with her spending money? A. The business office offers a personal allowance account to all residents upon admission. Q. Are there any pets at the WCA Home? A. There is a program in place called Pet Therapy. We are visited weekly by very well-mannered dogs that come just for a little love from our residents. We do have our own in-house dog that is with us most days of the week. Q. Going out to church would be a problem for my mom in the winter. Are there any religious services held at the WCA Home? A. Yes, the WCA Home schedules a church service every Sunday. A different denomination offers worship every week. There is a Bible study group that meets weekly with a local pastor. This pastor also offers counseling and one-on-one visits if the resident requests it. Q. Is the WCA Home affiliated with any one religion? A. No, residents have varied nationalities and religions. Q. Are there any security deposits required at the time of admission? A. Yes, a one-time fee equal to one half of a month’s rent. All but $400.00 is refundable at the time of discharge. Q. Do you have handrails in your hallways? A. Yes, throughout the building there are handrails that help our residents to feel that sense of independence. Q. What is provided in each resident’s room? A. Although we encourage all residents to bring in as much of their own personal belongings as they wish, the WCA Home does provide a twin size bed, end table, lamp, dresser, mirror and linens. Q. Does the WCA Home provide service for a private phone in each room? A. Phone service can be provided in each room, however, it is the resident or family’s responsibility to call the local phone company and request the service, as well as, terminating the service when no longer needed. Q. What services are available from the beautician? A. Services are washes, sets, cuts, perms, and colors. The charge for each service is payable by the resident at the time it is rendered.
