Trip to Vidlers

The ladies took at trip to Vidlers 5 and 10 earlier this week.  To build up energy for shopping, they ate lunch at a restaurant named “Taste” in East Aurora.  Everyone enjoyed the ride in a Team Services bus with lots of leg room, comfortable seats, and a wonderful driver!

Annual Front Porch Sale set for June 7 and 8; donations wanted!

We are gathering items to sell during our fifth annual Front Porch Sale, planned for Attic & Seller Days Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8 in the Village of Fredonia.  Board President Barb Servatius said that donations are being accepted now and pickup service will be provided if requested.

Donations are requested of clean and gently-used furniture, books, and most other items, but not clothing, textbooks, or encyclopedias.   Items can be delivered to the home during business hours. Or, to request a pickup, donors can call the main office at 672-7961, or email wcahome@netsync.net.

The Front Porch Sale will be held Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the front yard of the home’s location at 134 Temple Street.  Baked goods made by the Friends of WCA Home, along with beverages, will also be sold.  The Friends of WCA Home will assist customers at the sale.

All items for sale will be marked at garage-sale prices.

T​he annual event is a fundraiser to benefit the residents by funding  special events they can enjoy with family and friends.

Jane Szukala is Resident of the Month for April

Jane Szukala has been a resident of the WCA Home since February 2012 and is being honored as Resident of the Month for April 2013.  Jane was born and raised in Dunkirk, New York where she attended and graduated from Dunkirk High School. She went to the University of Buffalo where she majored in Business. She calls herself a “Jack of all trades”. She has been a long time member of St. Hedwig’s Parish in Dunkirk and has spent many hours volunteering at various church functions.

Jane never had any children of her own but she does have several nieces and nephews whom she loves to fuss over. She likes to reminisce about how she loved to bake and cook. Jane enjoyed traveling and thinks fondly of her trips to Poland and Mexico.

Since coming to the WCA Home Jane has attended exercise classes, coffee hours, Bingo, music programs and church events. She also enjoys eating out – and especially the trips to the Big Dipper.

April Employee of the Month: Jessica Schneider

A Kitchen Aide and Activity Aide at the WCA Home, Jessica Schneider is being recognized as Employee of the Month for April 2013.  On our staff since August 2012, Jessica was born and raised in Buffalo, New York but in 2005 she moved to Silver Creek to live with her grandmother. She graduated from Silver Creek High School and also attended Jamestown Community College.

Right now though she has her hands full with work and her one year old son, Jimmy.  Her hobbies include drawing and crocheting.

Her knowledge of the computer enables her to research activities for the residents, whom she enjoys tremendously.
