National Assisted Living Week – Staff Appreciation Day

During National Assisted Living Week we took time to appreciate our wonderful hard-working staff!  Wednesday September 10th was Western Day at The WCA Home as well as Staff Appreciation day.  All the residents got to wear their cowboy hats and enjoy some country and western entertainment.  The staff got to dress in their finest cowboy gear and sing along.  A good time was had by all!

We really do have THE BEST staff and we can’t thank them enough for their great skill and their big hearts!!!

National Assisted Living Week – The Magic of Music

When The National Center for Assisted Living announced the dates and the theme for National Assisted Living Week, we here at The WCA Home decided we wanted to plan a week full of celebration and appreciation.  The WCA Home is so proud to provide elegance in Assisted Living and we wanted to share it with this community that does so much to support us throughout the year!  To kick off the week we invited our local government representatives to come celebrate with “Snacks, Songs and Sing-A-Longs”.  We thank our guests for taking time out of their busy schedules to come visit!  We were joined by Dr. Joni Milgram-Luterman and some music therapy students from Fredonia State who spoke to everyone about the amazing power of music.

September Resident and Employee of the Month

Joy Jones has been chosen to be September Resident of the Month at the WCA Home in Fredonia.

Jones was born in Cherry Creek, lived most of her life in Fredonia, graduated from Fredonia High School and then went on to earn her degree from the Jamestown School of Practical Nursing as a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse). Jones began her nursing career at Brooks Memorial Hospital and then moved on to work at J. N. Adams Center, where she worked for 30 years.

Jones was married to Charles Jones in 1979 but the marriage only lasted a matter of months before her husband past away suddenly.

Jones has been a resident of WCA Home for almost seven years. She says that there is so much to enjoy living here.  In good weather she can sit on the front porch or the back deck – or in one of the many quiet little nooks she finds to sit and do word search puzzles.  Jones says that she especially likes the fact that all the rooms are private, she is free to come and go as she wants, and gets to enjoy her favorite television shows of the Beverly Hillbillies and Little House on the Prairie.

Jones is usually the one to say the Blessing for meals in the older (Victorian) dining room. She has a positive attitude and is up for most activities inside and outside of the Home. She is always there with a smile and loves to talk to people.

When speaking with Jones, she will say, “The WCA Home is a comfortable place to live” and that “…the Staff members are very friendly and helpful and make it feel like a home.”

The WCA Home is very happy to recognize Joy Jones as being special and our September Resident of the Month.

Tiffany Clay has been chosen to be Employee for the Month of September for the WCA Home.

Clay was born in Niles, Ohio and attended Barberton High School where some of her best memories were that of being a majorette. Today, Clay resides in Fredonia and has a daughter, Kyleigh, who has just begun the first grade and tells mom that she is very excited to be going back to school.

Tiffany is engaged to James Dawson from Ohio and while no date is set for the wedding, both know that they want it to be at Niagara Falls. She has enjoyed travel to California and Florida and remembers her grandparents taking her to Disney World, but her favorite thing is sitting on a beach and just enjoying the quiet and watching the waves.

Tiffany has worked several jobs that were always in the area where some type of “customer service” was essential. She has a very positive attitude, always ready to assist a resident, say a pleasant “Hi” to visitors, and to take that extra step to make someone feel better.  She currently works as an assistant in Housekeeping and is mainly responsible for daily upstairs room cleaning and care.  Usually on Sundays, Clay fills in as an activities aide.  She says that she really enjoys working at the WCA Home as all the ladies are so sweet and each one special in their own way.

The WCA Home is truly fortunate to have Tiffany Clay as our Employee for the Month of September.

The 6th Annual Resident/Family “Picnic”

The WCA Home had our 6th annual Resident/Family “picnic” on August 17th at Shorewood Country Club.  The event is funded by the proceeds of our annual porch sale held during Fredonia’s Attic and Seller days.  This year we had our most successful porch sale ever and we were able to host a truly special event for our residents and their families!
