2013 Annual Porch Sale

A huge thank you to the community for all your support during our annual porch sale!  This was our best sale ever and we are looking forward to treating our residents and their families to a very special resident “picnic” at the Shorewood Country Club.  None of this would be possible without the donations, volunteers and, of course, the people who came to shop.

We are so fortunate to part of such a generous community!

June Resident and Employee of the Month

RESIDENT OF THE MONTH

Devine Holmes is being honored as June’s Resident of the Month.  At 101 years of age this pleasant lady (also known as Dee)came to the WCA Home on the 28th of March 2013.  Devine was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota but when she was a very young girl the family relocated to Stockton, New York.  Dee is a graduate of Stockton High School.  Dee tells me that she and her husband Donald soon began a family of their own and before they knew it they were proud parents of a beautiful little girl.  Now she tells me she has three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.  She is very proud of her family and enjoys bragging a little, ahem….

Devine made a career out of taking care of her home and family and that kept her real busy – just ask her, she has a lot of wonderful memories that she would love to share.  Some pastimes that she was involved in were attending church functions, crocheting and travelling – She and Donald made several trips to California but their favorite “getaway” was to visit family in Florida.  She occasionally walks down to the Activity Room for the Coffee Hour and she also likes listening to the music programs.  When she’s in her room you’ll often see her reading her bible.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Welcome Ed Trombley, June’s Employee of the month who has been with us since 2011.  At that time Ed was brought on board as the home’s Maintenance man. Ed was born and raised in Kankakee, Illinois.  He graduated from Bradley Burbonias Central High School.  After school he enlisted in the U. S. Navy Seabees where he spent seven years.

Before coming to the WCA Home Ed spent fifteen years as a die setter for Webber Knapp in Jamestown, New York. Now he and his wife live in town just a few doors away from the Home. I found out that Ed has several hobbies but the one he is most passionate about is astronomy!  Ed enjoys woodworking and cabinet making.  He also likes cooking and reading historical books.
